A note on our materials

We take great care in our fabric selections, with a hierarchy of fabrics where natural and biodegradable fibres sit on top. When absolutely necessary for the strengthening and longevity of garments, we use some synthetic fibres - always giving priority to those that are regenerated from waste.

Our core fabrics are certified by independent bodies to ensure ethical and environmental compliance throughout the supply chain. We also use small quantities of deadstock - left-over materials from larger producers that we are able to purchase for very limited runs.

COTTON

Our cotton fabric is certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), is grown at certified farms in India and is processed and woven in China at a GOTS certified mill. The white cotton is bleached under stringent GOTS guidelines and our black and pink cotton are dyed in Aotearoa with AZO-free dyes.

As our New Zealand manufacturers are not independently certified by GOTS, we are not able to label our end products as GOTS certified under the labelling guidelines.

WOOL

Our primary wool suiting fabric is certified by the Responsible Wool Standard, meaning that strict animal welfare requirements are adhered to. Our wool comes from Australia and is processed and woven at an RWS certified mill in China.

As our New Zealand manufacturers are not independently certified by RWS, we are not able to label our end products as RWS certified under the labelling guidelines.

We also have some very limited deadstock, most of which is Australian wool, processed and woven in Italy.

CUPRO

Our cupro is made from regenerated cotton waste and is made in Japan.

FUSINGS

The majority of our fusings are made from recycled polyester by leading German textile company Freudenberg. Sourced primarily via John Rainger Textiles.

BUTTONS

Our buttons are black mother of pearl and trochus shells sourced from around the pacific. They are harvested by free divers in line with kaitiakitanga, heritage and government fishing laws. The supply is dependent on the health of the harvesting areas, meaning the protection of the ecosystem is paramount. The shells are processed in Vietnam and are fully traceable.
